Resolved Question: PCB might sue ICC if tainted players proved innocent. Is it not an empty noise?

Miffed with the ICC Anti-Corruption and Security Unit's handling of the 'spot-fixing' scandal involving Salman Butt, Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Aamer, the Pakistan Cricket Board might sue the ACSU if the players are found innocent. The PCB's senior legal advisor Talib Rizvi said that if the players were eventually found innocent, then the PCB would consider taking legal action against the ICC and other bodies involved in making the allegations and conducting the inquiry against the players. "I just want to be clear the PCB will consider legal action against the ICC and other bodies if our players are found innocent because we feel the ICC has bypassed some of its possess procedures in suspending the players and and overall in this case," Rizvi said. He also emphasised that at the moment there was no criminal investigation going on against the three players. "It is just a preliminary inquiry and nothing more. They are being questioned. No investigations have been held," he added. Rizvi, who also represented the PCB in the appellate tribunal during the hearing of the appeals of players against their bans and fines this year, claimed that so far the ICC had not shown any evidence against the three players. "Even today at the press conference the ICC and ACSU were asked about the evidence or charges against our players but they gave no details. So we want to know the reasons for suspending the players." Talib's son, Tafazzul Rizvi is also in London as the board's legal advisor and is closely involved in the ongoing inquiry by the Scotland Yard. He accompanied the three players yesterday to the Kilburn police station where they were summoned for detailed questioning. Sources close to the PCB said that until now even Tafazzul Rizvi had not been given any concrete evidence on basis of which the ICC decided to suspend Butt, Asif and Aamer. Talib said it was too early to say when the inquiry would end or when Scotland Yard would give a detailed report. "We just feel that the suspension of our players is a bit harsh in the circumstances," Is this because at gift only civil case/investi- gation is on?

Open Question: Seedy World of the Indian Bookies!!!!!!!!!?

Illegal cricket betting in India is a shady and secretive affair. It's every done by telephone - often mobiles - to lessen the risks. Bookies who answer have little time for pleasantries during the game's frenzy. They simply relay the odds. Typically they might be 75/100 on a win. Meaningless to the uninitiated, and anyone else who might be eavesdropping. Even the sums staked have codes: one peti the shorthand for 100,000 rupees. And punters use a recognised codename to register the bet. It takes only a few seconds before the line goes dead. Winnings, or losses, are totted up and settled later in cash. Few on either side welsh on the deal. It's every done on trust. Which is ironic for an industry awash with allegations of match-fixing and bribery. Hansie Cronje and his team-mates are the latest to fall below suspicion of involvement with Indian bookies. The betting blizzard of £16m that greets India's biggest one-day fixtures makes the temptation toinfluence the outcome irresistible. Especially for big operators with hot-lines to an expatriate Mafia sheltering in Dubai. Most, though, are tiny outfits operating in seedy back-streets like Delhi's Paharganj district. A warren of narrow streets crowded with cheap backpackers' hotels, it is perfect cover for illegal bookies. Clerks man banks of phones. Televisions carry matches live on satellite. But such unprepossessing settings mask a sharpness. "These guys have brains like computers," said one awed punter. "They work out odds and positions in a split-second." New clients must win the bookie's trust. It's a slow process. Friends of established gamblers introduce new punters. Bets are accepted for the first three or four months with the person who made the introduction acting as guarantor. Not that problems occur often. "With the underworld involved, these guys receive physical if you don't pay-up," said one Delhi sports editor. "It's a dangerous business." Perhaps more difficult than paying up is keeping up with the fiendishly complex odds. Rates might start at 75/100, where Rs100 correctly placed on, say, India winning, would bring a return of Rs75.Crucially, though, the odds can fluctuate as the game progresses. Odds can vary wildly as much as 70 or 80 times a game. "Cricket betting is like eight hours of non-cease sex," said one Bangalore bookie, who takes up to 2,000 calls during a game. Punters place seven or eight bets throughout the match to increase winnings, or, more likely, mitigate losses. "The essential difference between betting on the race course and cricket betting is that if the horse has lost you lose your money. But in cricket you have a chance of recovering your money until the last ball." For punter and bookie same it can be helter-skelter ride. "I personally prefer horse racing because the risks in cricket are too great," said one bookie. "You might have done everything right as a bookie, but your outstandings [debts] kill you." Literally, it seems. Bangalore bookies settle up within 24 hours, but punters run on credit waiting for the next game to make up losses. Delhi, by contrast, has a tradition of next-day settlements, while Bombay sets apart a day weekly to square the books. Despite the Mafia's watchful eye, outstanding bets are sometimes so huge that bookies go below. At least two dozen have gone bust in the last few years two years and half a dozen committed suicide. Pointers to pitch condition and the wicket are crucial to fixing the odds. Pradeep Magazine, cricket writer for the Indian Express, was offered an £80,000 south Delhi apartment to introduce a bookie to touringIndian team members. "The entire thing is illegal, so they have to receive this information to set their odds somewhere. The bookie who approached me wanted information on the wicket and anything I could tell him as the match progressed." Manoj Prabhakar, a former Indian swing bowler and opening batsman, has been pushing for a clean-up. He rocked the Indian cricketing establishment when he revealed that he was offered £40,000 by two team-mates to "play below par" at the 1994 Singer Cup in Sri Lanka. He fears match-fixing will have a disastrous outcome. "With the Mafia involved, it's a dangerous business and someone's going to receive killed." http://www.

Open Question: India-Sri Lanka Rajkot ODI was fixed, claims Indian bookie - Your thoughts ?

http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/sports/cricket/top-stories/Bookie-claims-India-Sri-Lanka-Rajkot-ODI-was-fixed/articleshow/6488556.cms Posted another link in the previous question, which was reported: http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/sports/cricket/top-stories/Cricket-fixers-from-India-are-a-reality/articleshow/6487356.cms I feel a full inquiry is required here. @somebody: that's why I put forward this claim published by an Indian News-agency. With this you are emphasizing the fact that Indian media is the most irresponsible one in the region. Zero credibility of the source ? Well I think hearing every the players arrive out and say they have been approached by bookies obviously says it does happen and I think you would be naive to think it only happens to Pakistani players. The ICC needs to definately take the initiative and do a thorough investigation on every teams. BTW TOI is one silly thing, I mean the title of the news is such as if everything is proved.

Open Question: Can someone name this creepy crawly?

Found and killed something in my home today and need to know what it is to make sure it's harmless. It had two short cricket-like antennae, body very thin (1/10th of an inch or less) and around 1 1/2 inches long, lots of very thin legs giving it a fuzzy appearance. No obvious body segments or at least very tiny ones. It was either brown or black with a white or cream colored underside. Guesses are welcome so that I can check against pictures. I looked up the home centipede and it does look similar. However, the top was much darker (brownish-blackish) than the tan markings I look on random pictures of home centipedes. The bottom is the right color and the size is about right, so it could be that this was a close cousin or a similar species. Thank you!

Open Question: Audio tapes of long conversations between Paki cricketers and Mazhar Majeed found. Will it be good enough proof?

Pakistan cricket could find itself in a deeper crisis in the coming days as the spot-fixing scandal involving suspended players Salman Butt, Mohammad Aamir and Mohammad Asif is expected to grow bigger with fresh revelations. Sources said that British tabloid The News of the World, which related stories Tainted Pakistan trio questioned over 'calls, SMSes, secret accounts' broke the story about the alleged nexus between the Pakistani trio and a bookie Mazhar Majeed, is likely to release more details which will bring more embarrassment for the players and PCB. "The players were on Friday let off by the investigating authorities after a marathon inquiry session without any charges being pressed against them but this does not mean the matter is going to die down soon," one source said. Well aware of the behind the scenes development in London, the source said the tabloid had apparently handed over long hours of recorded conversations between Pakistani players and Mazhar Majeed dating back to the Twenty20 World Cup and the Asia Cup in Sri Lanka. "In one particular audio tape, one player is heard talking to Mazhar about getting out early in a match of the Asia Cup," the source said. http://www.hindustantimes.com/News-Feed/cricketnews/More-embarrassment-for-Pakistan-likely-in-spot-fixing-row/Article1-595960.aspx

Open Question: What is the actual total capacity of the Sydney Cricket Ground?

I've done some research on two Sydney sports venues- the Sydney Football Stadium and the Sydney Cricket Ground. The Sydney Football Stadium (used to be called Aussie Stadium) has a total capacity of 45,500. However, I'm perplexed about the total capacity of the Sydney Cricket Ground. According to Wikipedia, the total capacity of the SCG is 46,000- higher than that of the SFS. However, according to http://www.worldstadiums.com, the total capacity of the SCG is 44,000- lower than that of SFS. This is quite a discrepancy. What is the actual total capacity of the Sydney Cricket Ground? 44,000 or 46,000?

Open Question: Can Leopard Geckos eat raw/cooked chicken breast?

I have several Leopard geckos & was wondering (please don't judge me for this weird/maybe stupid question) if they can eat raw or cooked chicken breast in place of the crickets I buy every week? I was thinking I'd clip the chicken to a meal worm sized slices & dust the chicken rather than the crickets? I hand feed every of my Leos & don't look them turning it down (they never turn anything down from my hand) but before I actually try it & feed it to them I thought I'd ask if any one knew if this may be bad for them or if it would be ok?! I guess I'm just wondering if there's anything in it that can cause them hurt? Please, only respond if you know what your talking about. I'm NOT an idiot, I'm a VERY experienced Leopard Gecko owner/lover/breeder & was just curious. Thanks in advance!
